Letter from the editor: welcome to autumn quarter.
A welcome message to the UWT community from The Ledger’s editor-in-chief
By MJ Cameron
Welcome to the autumn quarter and the first issue of The Tacoma Ledger. If you’re new to UW Tacoma, hello! I hope you had a great first week as an official Husky! For those of you that are returning, welcome back! Here’s another great year at UW Tacoma.
My name is Max Cameron, and I’m excited to be the newest editor-in-chief of UW Tacoma’s school newspaper. Previously, I was the Managing Editor in January up until June and a reporter when I came to UW Tacoma in 2025. I’m excited to work with a new team this year and help them connect, learn and grow as writers.
As editor-in-chief, my main goal this year is to share stories and information that encourage conversation and build community on campus. Finding a sense of community can be hard, especially when students are balancing classes, work and responsibilities outside school. Through The Tacoma Ledger’s reporting, I hope to help students discover opportunities to get involved, hear perspectives beyond their own and feel more connected to campus life.
With that, I’d like to present our first issue of the year! I’m very proud of the stories the reporters wrote, from parking at UW Tacoma to the SEIU 925 protest on campus last week; my reporters are already starting strong with campus and local stories that matter to our community.
To stay up to date with what’s happening around UW Tacoma, be sure to check out our Instagram and Facebook page, uwtledger for news on uploaded stories, podcasts and more! Throughout the year we will have more positions opening for the writing staff, so be on the lookout on Handshake for more information.
Whether you’re picking up The Ledger for the first time or returning as a regular reader, thank you for being part of our community. If you have something you’d like to share, have a question or want to point us to a potential story, please email us at ledger@uw.edu. I look forward to sharing the stories of our campus and the City of Tacoma with you this year.
