Top 5 Spine-Chilling Things to Do This Halloween

Visit a Haunted House

Haunted houses are a classic trademark of Halloween. Scary things tend to come out in the dark, so grab a group of friends and share in the frights of ghosts and ghouls that cry out in the night. Have them scream in terror and then make fun of them later. If you’re looking for a scary place that is also child friendly, visit Rutledge Farms Corn Maze, located on 302 93rd Ave SE, Olympia, WA 98501. You can get lost in an 8-acre corn maze, pick pumpkins, and, for those daring enough, try their newest attraction: zombie paintball. This game sees you and your friends traveling through the mazes and shooting the ‘zombies’ trying to attack you. For those interested in learning more about Rutledge Farms Corn Maze and their various activities, including prices and visiting hours, visit their website at www.rutledgecornmaze.com. Another scary place to check out that is closer to campus is the Pierce County Haunted Asylum, located on 2501 E. G Street in Tacoma. Try to survive as you tour this Asylum ran by the inmates as they try to scare you with each passing turn. Try not to get too scared. For visiting hours and prices, visit www.piercecountyasylum.org.

Pumpkin Art

With pumpkins you can create some amazingly scary or silly works of art, depending on your tastes. One of my favorites pumpkin art methods is using the pumpkin’s seeds and pulp to add on to the art. One example is using the interior to simulate vomit from a drunk jack o’ lantern. There are other various methods for pumpkin art such as using markers for colors, adding on to the surface of your pumpkin with the carved out bits, and so on. There is an endless amount of possibilities. For those with young children, it gives them the opportunity to be creative and see what they can do. For those who want to learn how to carve out pumpkins or pick out some cool stencil designs, visit www.pumpkinlady.com. This website offers hundreds of unique, free stencils for you to use, so you will surely find one that suits you.

Decorations

Decorating your place to look scary is a perfect way to get into the Halloween spirit. Spookify your house with cobwebs hanging from the ceilings and walls. Get fake spiders and place them around your home and scare guests when they run into them. Your house is your canvas and the only limits are your imagination. For some cheap places to get decorations you can visit any Dollar Store, or if you are looking for something more expensive you can visit Party City, Target, or any other major retail store. Or to be on point next Halloween, go to Party City after Halloween and take advantage of the marked-down prices on decorations.

Halloween Party

Celebrating with friends is an important part of any holiday and having a Halloween party is the best way to enjoy this time of year. Invite some friends over and have some Halloween-themed food and drinks like candy, pumpkin shaped cookies, fruit punch that looks like blood, or those gummy candies that look like eyeballs. To help create the right spooky mood, play some traditional music like This Is Halloween or Monster Bash. To add on to the terrifying time, make it a costume party. Have people come dressed in their Halloween costumes to fill the room with witches, zombies, vampires and so on. For a store nearby the campus  that sells costumes and makeup visit North West Costume located on 2315 6th avenue in Tacoma. Here you can get a variety of different types of costumes and makeup that fits your specific standards.

Trick or Treating

Halloween isn’t complete without trick or treating. Dressing up in a costume and going door to door asking for candy is so enjoyable. Especially for those with young children / siblings, who can enjoy watching them have a great time. However Tacoma is a big city and not every place is ideal or safe for children to go trick or treating. Some safe places to keep in mind when trick or treating are the stadium district and the town of Fircrest. During Halloween most businesses get into the spirit and participate in giving candy out to trick or treaters, especially in the stadium district. Fircrest is a small town located within the central Tacoma district with a family-friendly atmosphere. Also remember one of the most important rules when it comes to trick or treating: go easy on the candy. The spirit might be willing, but the teeth are not.

Have a safe and fun Halloween!
