Your Class Project Might Be Worth More than You Think
Spring quarter, the Glory and a Grand Award is being offered for any outstanding research projects. Three $1000 awards will be given in the categories: Senior Thesis, Senior Non- Thesis and Non-Senior. Any undergraduate student currently attending UWT with a project that was completed between Spring 2014 and Spring 2015 is eligible.
Funded by the Kenneth S. and Faye G. Allen Library Endowment, this award is designed to encourage UW students to be information literate. This award recognizes “unusual depth or broadness in the use of library resources and collections…extraordinary ability to identify, locate, select, evaluate, and synthesize library resources…[and] demonstration of significant personal knowledge in the methods of research and inquiry.” It also provides incentive for students to build on their research skills.
Glory and a Grand accepts any project completed for course credit, or for any project completed for an Undergraduate Research Program. This year six to 10 awards will be offered. Even first drafts of projects are accepted. Applicants are expected to complete a 750-1,000 word reflective essay outlining the process, approach, and research challenges.
2014 winners include seniors Stefanie Jackson for History, Malia Piper in Classics, Steph Swanson for Swedish and Linguistics, Wanda Bertram in International Studies, Garrett Knoll for Aquatic and Fishery Sciences, Samuel Pizelo for English Literature, and non-seniors Ian Bellows for JSIS & Geography, and William Tsang for Public Health.
The submission deadline is May 18 at 5:00 p.m. Submissions will be reviewed by a chosen board of UW librarians and faculty. Group and co-authored faculty papers are eligible. The award reception will be held Tuesday, June 9, 2015 at 12:30 p.m.
