Festive events to check out in October

Looking to have some festive fun this October? Look no further!  Here are a few of the best fall events in the South Sound region.

Blossoms and Haunts

Kings Books and Wright Park’s Conservatory are teaming up to bring you a night of spooky stories. Attendees are welcome to bring their favorite poem, odd tale, spooky short story or an eerie excerpt to recite to the group. For inspiration on what spooky tale you will share, head over to Kings Books and the staff will guide you to a plethora of stories that are sure to frighten. There is a $3 suggested donation and festive beverages will also be available.

Fife Harvest Festival

Located at Dacca Park in Fife, this Harvest Festival includes all kinds of arts, crafts, foods, performances and vendors. Complete with a beer garden, petting zoo, hayrides and more, this event is sure to have something for everyone. The fun starts with a pancake breakfast at Dacca Barn and ends with a firework show to round out the celebration. This event is free and is open to all ages.

Picha’s Pumpkin Patch

Offering so much more than just a regular pumpkin patch, Picha’s farm also has a five-acre corn maze, a pumpkin slingshot, hayrides, live music, fall comfort foods and more. Attendees can stroll the pumpkin patch sipping a hot apple cider or eating a gourmet hotdog from local vendors. Admission is free and the farm is also dog-friendly if you want to bring your furry friend along for the fun.

Frighthouse Station

Located near the Tacoma Dome in Freighthouse Square Marketplace, Frighthouse offers two terrifying haunted attractions. For only $25, attendees can immerse themselves in both Shadows and The Redemption, two interactive and immersive horrifying experiences. Set in a concrete, windowless bunker, Frighthouse Square sets itself apart from other haunted houses through participant involvement and a solid horrifying story line. Both events are not recommended for children under 12. Did I mention the space was historically used as a morgue? Seriously. Tickets are sold online at tacomahaunts.com.

Zoo Boo

Ever seen an elephant smash a pumpkin? See that and a lot more at Point Defiance Zoo during their annual Zoo Boo. This family-friendly weekend brings festive animal presentations, costume parades, arts and crafts, a haunted aquarium experience and more. Halloween decorations are spread throughout the zoo and attendees can vote on which one is their favorite. Admission is $18 and attendees who wear a costume receive a $2 discount.

Lakewood Truck and Tractor Day

A free event located at Fort Steilacoom Park, Truck and Tractor Day provides entertainment for all ages with activities such as pumpkin painting, crafts, games and pumpkin chucking. This event will feature dozens of giant tractors and trucks where children can sit in the driver’s seat and honk the horn. Skip the line and fill out the waiver in advance at cityoflakewood.us/parks.
