Husky students welcomed to campus

For the last week, freshmen and transfer students have flooded UW Tacoma with excitement for the upcoming year. During orientation week, new students got to know the school, received all the information they needed to know and were given endless UWT swag to show off their Husky pride.

During the annual resource fair, UWT’s various clubs and centers all gathered together to reach out to incoming students throughout orientation week. These fairs promote getting involved and connected to a new university — something that is very important for overall happiness and success at any school.

To round out orientation week, UWT students came together on Wednesday at the Prairie Line Trail. Here both local and school clubs reached out to old and new students at numerous booths.

On Thursday, a Welcome Concert also occurred along the Prairie Line Trail. The concert featured local talents who belted out tunes to beatboxed. The event — sponsored by Anthem Coffee & Tea — offered coffee so students could drink while enjoying the entertainment.

And, last but not least, Convocation was held on Sept. 29. With DJs, food, drinks and free UWT swag, the ceremony — held by Chancellor Mark Pagano — is an annual tradition meant to kick off the first week of classes. There was also a community fair sponsored by local nonprofit organizations and small businesses.

The final event of the year will be SAB’s annual Lights Out held on Oct. 6 at 9:30 p.m. at the University Y Student Center. Lights Out will include face painting, rock wall climbing, air hockey, ping pong, video games and pool.
